Social Ice Hockey

Thats a wrap!

The final night of Tuesday night hockey was unbelievable! It is safe to say from the comments of each game and watching/playing first hand it is outstanding to see the individual and team progress in comparison to the beginning of the season.
This competition was never about winning or losing, rather it was my vision to provide an environment to facilitate individual growth in the sport we love and play (ice hockey for those of you who aren’t on the same page here!)

As the season progressed I was unable to attend every game and at times was a bit slack updating scores on the website etc. I apologise to any unanswered e-mails or delayed responses, however due to university and teaching commitments it seemed like there were not enough hours in the day! So I would like to say a special thank you to Kelly who became my partner in crime, frantically helping me to organise scores, games, emails, goalies etc. A big thanks to Ben as well for helping with a lot of the admin work!
A special mention needs to be made to Brian (on the white team) for creating this website free of charge and for updating the scores when I either forgot or was too busy. Thanks to Clare (Seb’s partner) for timekeeping/scoring nearly every game even if Seb wasn’t playing!

On a final note I am extremely lucky to have shared this journey with most of you and can only wish you the best on your future hockey endeavours. Unfortunately as mentioned earlier due to university and teaching commitments I will not be running the summer hockey at Sydney Ice arena. I am entrusting Kelly and Ellis/Ben with this responsibility and they have my full support and will probably run the competitions better than me so this is probably a good thing for you guys!

I am sure I will see you all at the ice rink in the near future!

Yours in hockey,

Pat

Code of Conduct

The Tuesday Hockey League presents a unique atmosphere where recreational players can begin to enjoy the game in a safe, enjoyable, respectful, non-contact and non-competitive environment.

The spirit of the Tuesday League provides an opportunity for like-minded individuals to enjoy the exercise and camaraderie of ice hockey in a safe setting.

This is a social league and therefore may not be for everyone. If you are wanting a more competitive league or with contact allowed then you should be looking for another league.

The Tuesday Hockey league is not about competing to win. It is about each of us tempering our skill, strength, fitness, speed, and so forth to allow every person to fully participate without risk of injury.

There is a certain manner of acceptable play:

  • Non contact means no inappropriate contact using body or stick, i.e. – no body checking, no deliberate pushing, bumping, high sticking, hooking, slashing, tripping and so on.
  • If a player falls due to accidental contact, the game slows until we know they are OK.
  • Players are not to be angled into and onto the boards.
  • Intimidating other players is not on.
  • If a slower player gets a break away – that player is not to be hit from behind or hooked, slashed, tripped etc, rather he or she can take their best shot on the keeper without being prevented due to foul play.
  • Weaker players are not prayed upon or seen as an opportunity to easily regain possession – rather they are permitted to make the best play they can.
  • Better players allow others to participate by easing up a little where appropriate, i.e. – display good sportsmanship.
  • We can cheer great goals, saves and plays by both sides.
  • We are expected to be careful and respectful.
  • Creative, free flowing offence with an emphasis on passing is the aim and forceful, aggressive defensive tactics are neither acceptable nor appropriate.

In short, there is a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for ANY deliberate body contact.

Players who are not willing or able to abide by the Tuesday Hockey league philosophy and code of conduct they will not be allowed to, participate in the league and after the commencement of the League may be excluded from playing any further games in the League.

By participating you accept and play by the philosophy outlined above. Having said all this we wish to create a league that you all will enjoy and look forward to right through to the end of the season.
